caribbean vacation location for 2 young women?
yahooanswerid asked:
My best friend and I would like to go to the Caribbean and are looking into costs, locations, packages, etc. We are 2 single females in our mid twenties, so something not full of children and more tailored for our age group would be best. Anyone have any recommendations and ideas on costs? Also, when is a good time of year to go that’s got decent weather? We’d rather save up longer and have a nice trip than cut corners and have a mediocre one. Any suggestions on specific islands, hotels, packages, cities, etc are appreciated, thanks.

BTW: not really interested in cruises

I’m from St. Thomas and would highly recommend. It’s a US territory; don’t need passports to get into or out of. Everyone speaks english. Stay at Sugar Bay (all inclusive). Spring is a good time to go; end of April/early May if you want to experience Carnival. Flights right now are pretty cheap.

Jamacia would be your best bet. it absolutely gourgeous and they’re tons to do and has the best party spots. I’m not too sure about packages, but it’s amazing and the people speak very good english there. around march would be nice.

ask a travel agency about info, or even AAA, see what their prices are. and if it seems to expensive, then take the info they got and find the package online. it’ll probably be cheaper that way.
even though you said no cruises, that’s what i would recommend.. because you stop at more than one island. and you’re not on the ship the whooole time…plus u can meet lots of people easier.

Go to the DR. Weather is good year round (although in the winter it tends to rain more) They have these huge resort hotels, with night clubs, unlimited alcohol (theres a bar around every corner) and tons of other stuff… the hotels themselves organize groups to go to different places in the DR, wich is cool because when you get back from a tour you can hang out with whoever you liked on the tour… and then get plastered together for free!
You can prolly stay for like a week for around 2k.

The Radisson Cable Beach Bahamas has the best beach and pool area in the Caribbean, it also has a great Casino.
Most of the people there are couples or singles, didn’t see any kids there when I was there.
Lots of good places to eat a short taxi ride away.
Paradise Island is another place but it get full of tourist when the cruise ships hit it.

The best island for you would be the Dutch side of St Maarten. Very reasonable, LOTS of fun fun fun!! I wnet there a few times and always had a blast. We went one time for a bachlorette party…so fun!! Stay at Maho Beach resort…on the beach, and you can walk right over to Sunset Beach bar and watch the 747 take off..so cool!!! Definately a young, safe isalnd to go to…no onw will bother you.
Jamaica is not safe unless you STAY at your compound. I HATED it there…when we stayed there the hotel warned us not to leave…who wants that on vacation??
Dominican Republic..I have never been there, but my girlfirends went and one of them was robbed right in front of her hotel. Some guy just grabbed her purse and ran off. The security guard did not even budge..he told her file a report….that sucked for her because she had $ 400 cash on her. So don’t go there.
Aruba is full of 50 and up..gamblers..I did not care for the island. Nice, pretty…but I would never go back…too old.
St Kitts- Very quiet and no nightlife.
Puerto Rico is like being on a beach in the summer here in NJ, so I never liked that place either.
Bahamas is too comercial.
Well, I hope this helps
Have fun!!
Go to when ready to book!

Look into these three websites for ideas and prices
Also check some of your airline websites. They also have vacation packages. it wouldn’t hurt to talk to your local travel agencies. Sometime the prices are cheaper.
But some of the fun islands I liked were St Maarten/St Martin. Half french/half Dutch. Excellent clubs and good duty free shopping. The beaches are beautiful and it’s not a spring break destination.
I like the Riviera Maya area in Mexico for beautiful all-inclusive resorts. Some new resorts are being built. Close to many activities and attractions.
The best time to travel and save $$ is after April 15th. The high season is over and the shoulder season is starting.
Hurricane season starts June 1st-Nov. 30th. So be careful picking dates during that time period. Past history September is the worst hurricane month, next is October.
Personally, I like April, May or June.
Enjoy and half the fun is researching the perfect place to vacation.)

Don’t forget about Mexico! Cancun is a good place to party.
I went to Freeport, Bahamas with a girlfriend and really liked it. Everything is right in one spot and they have a good bus system. We did get a wallet stolen at a bar but we were not careful and set it down and turned our backs. Other than that, I felt safe, many police patrolling the area. The only downside is that it’s a bunch of couples and honeymooners. We managed to meet up with some other singles and some locals and had a blast though!
I do not recommend Dominican Republic. The beaches are iffy. My friend and her bf went and they said the beaches at their resort were very rocky and inaccessible and the water was not clear. My aunt and uncle went and said the flies and mosquitoes were so bad that they stayed in their rooms after the sun went down.

pretty much woffer the same stuff, the main thing that can differentiate them would be their history, Look at the site aiykoo.com in Martinique. First thing ,the low season in travel is between June and september prices are very low , room and board most of the islands have guests houses they cost between 25 and $40 a night. St lucia is very touristy and there a guesthouse named Ashley, she could negotiate the prices meals included, even help you in negotiating tours with cab drivers so you do not get conned
Saint Martin is nice and cheap, the main attraction is the jewelry, HIGH QUALITY AT LOW LOW PRICES plus it is very small ,you can go around it in less than an hour, there a Dutchside and a French side , english is spoken on both side

Since your in your Twenties like myself i would recommend Barbados. It is a more a commmerical caribbean island that caters for all. Unlike the Dominican Republic/Jamaica you DON’T have to be restriced to your compound. You can explore the island with ease either via bus which is $1.50, rent a car or take a taxi. The capital Bridgetown has plenty to keep you occupied with in the daytime as it has plenty of shopping malls, and duty free outlets to visit. If you get bored with that hop on the bus and go all around the exterior of the island (avoid peak hours) and head to the beach. The east coast Basheba is famous for surfing.
Night life well there is plenty to see and do if you like reggae - there is the reggae lounge down in the south coast in ‘’st lawerance gap - the most livelist place in Barbados” its for both locals and tourists, Mc Bride’s is an Irish establishment. The boatyard is also popular amongest both Bajans/tourism, club extreme mostly the locals go there but i’m sure that’s where i went for the foam party and most importantly GO TO OISTINS. its a friday night thing where tourist and locals get together eat and party the night away. …
Hotel recommendation i would say Coral Mist which as a sister hotel Blue Orchids virtually next door. Only disadvantage is that its on the main road where traffic sometimes builds up and can be noisy at night but the hotel is very clean.
Island hopping is also good if you have afford since most of the eastern caribbean islands are near by. You can easily travel from Barbados to St Vincent, St Lucia etc…

If you want cheap holidays book an all inclusive on San Andres island. It’s unbelievably cheap at this time of year . The island is very small but there is much to see . snorkeling is good too and there are no drugwars - at least not when i was there 3 years ago. Mexico - Mayan riviera Hotel Catalonia Yucatan is very good , the creperie on the upper level is excellent. Have fun.
