Las Vegas: Mandalay Bay or The Mirage?

Abby asked:

I’m headed to Las Vegas for a long weekend in May and it’ll be my first trip out there. I’m trying to decide on where to stay and was wondering what people thought of Mandalay Bay and The Mirage. I’ll be out there for 3 night with a group of girlfriends. Also are the package air/hotel prices typically a pretty good deal? Thank you!

Those are two great hotels on the Vegas strip. The Mirage is more central and in the middle of all the action. Mandalay bay on the other hand is a nicer hotel, cleaner, great service and the best pool in Vegas.

As far as package deals are concerned, The best way to get a great deal is to book them separately. For flights, check sites like Southwest airlines or US Airways. Also do a search on kayak engine. It will check all airlines going to Vegas and all major travel sites and return the cheapest fare.

For hotels, book directly from the Mirage or Mandalay Bay using their discount promo codes to get the maximum discounts. Here are their discount codes.

The Mirage has the best location. Mandalay Bay is the last hotel on the south end of the strip and can be a problem traveling to and from every day. The Mirage is in the center of the strip and you can get anywhere from there easily. You can check out thing on this site.

Look at all the sites you can and compare prices both in package deals and separate. Even check at the hotel sites for hotel package deals they are promoting. You will surprised at the prices.

I stayed at Mandalay Bay last May and loved it. I’ve only ever heard good things about it from websites and friends. I went with a group of girlfriends. The room was luxurious and clean. We got a regular room. The beds were comfy and it had 2 closets. The bathroom was every girl’s dream. It was big enough for at least 3 people to get ready at once. It had a bathtub and stand up shower, a separate room for the toilet, a huge mirror, and a tv!

Mandalay has been rated #1 pool in Vegas. It has a man made beach, a regular pool, and an “adult” pool (topless).

I haven’t stayed at the Mirage. I did see the Beetles Love Cirque du Soleil there and I highly recommend it. It seems like a nice hotel and has a great location right in the middle of the strip. Mandalay is at the end of the strip. You have to take the monorail to the strip, but you never have to wait more than a few minutes and it’s only a 5 minute ride. They both have similar tropical themes. If you want luxury, go with Mandalay. It also has a younger crowd, 20s-30s. Mirage seems to have an older crowd from what I saw.

I recommend booking on vegas.com. They seemed to have the lowest prices when I booked. Also, try travelocity.com and kayak.com and compare prices.

Depending on what you like, you may like certain hotels over one another. New York New York has a fabulous, but shaky, looping coaster that is very entertaining, Circus Circus has great live performances and a good indoor park and casino, Mandalay Bay has a simulated beach as a pool, complete with “tides”, Mirage was renowned for magic shows, and was where Siegfried and Roy got their job, and the Stratosphere offers the best views of the Strip and the Mojave, as well as some clubs and rides, among them the renowned Big Shot, And the Venetian is for those who like elegance and heavy theming. It just depends on whayever personality you are, since all the hotels cater to one. ?

Why the Mirage? It’s the best location of the 2, but not the best in that area.

Stay at the Venetian, great pool, great location, great club-Tao.

Email me with any other questions.

Mandalay bay is more of a party hotel, and has a younger average age, so you may like that more. I personally though the Mirage was more fun though. Better location, less crowded pool ( although still very crowded), and slightly bettern price.

Both are fantastic. Mandalay Bay has the greatest pool wnile Mirage has the volcano. Check directly with each casino for the best deal!

Mirage—much better location, Mandalay Bay—best pool if you are going to spend a ton of time at the pool…(of course the price of the drinks at the pool will kill you—LOL)

I would book air and hotel room separately in order to get the best price. Furthermore hands up for Mandalay Bay (although both hotels are very nice) because of the great pool scene. For air I recommend kayak.com and for hotel rooms I would check the latest Las Vegas hotel promo codes on - this can save money.
