Which is better to stay at in Cancun, downtown or near the shore?

Eddy O asked:

Next month I plan on going to Cancun Mexico, I am trying to purchase vacation packages online and i want to know which is better downtown cancun or the shore. I like the nightlife and going out to clubs and bars. I really am not too big on beaches and swimming. So what is more recommendable for a great experience? Keep in mind that I am just looking to party for all seven nights im there, and sleep all day!

Definitely downtown where the bars are to save all the cab fares.
Might be a little more expensive though. Have fun!!

Downtown sucks. Most of the bars are on the main strip by the beaches anyway. You might want to review your decision to go to Cancun if you don’t like beaches and swimming. I think you picked the wrong place.

I’ve been to Cancun. I wouldn’t stay downtown because your hotel will most likely have a shuttle into town and buses run all night long. Most people don’t hang at the bars during the day because the beaches are actually quite awesome and everyone drinks on the beach all day..many hotels have swim up and pool side bars..so don’t sleep the day away!!

Well…if you are not interested in the beach…stay on the lagoon side…it is cheaper. I like downtown, but then I hang out with the locals. I am usually the only english speaking, white woman in the joint. I love it!!! If you want me to help you book it…I am a travel….I would love to do it. There is some good hotels downtown….Margaritas…Xbalamque…but they are like 20 minutes away from the party center and the taxi ride will kill you. You can always take the bus for .65 cents each, though. On the lagoon side there is Grand Royal Lagoon, Best Western Clipper Club, and Imperial Lagona Cancun. All the the ones I mentioned cost about the same, except Best Western is a bit more expensive I think. I stayed 4 nights at Grand Royal Lagoon in December….it is clean and my bed was good…..about all I ask for. Keep in mind that you can walk to party center from Grand Royal Lagoon…..I did several nights in January. It is closer to the action than downtown. At least the action I think you are looking for. Coco Bongo, The City, Dady O and Dady Rock, Congo Bar, XX Bar, Bulldog Cafe…….that kind of action. There is a bar down by the lagoon and a boat dock. A nice little hotel. I stay at Margaritas and Xbalamque a lot…..they are both nice enough. Clean and well kept…nothing fancy, but I love staying at both. Good bars downtown…Canta Canta, Boom Boom, and others all up and down the Avenue Yaxchilan. I will be glad to help if you need any assistance…..booking or just questions. I love talking about Cancun!!!!!!!!!

You don’t EVEN want to think about staying downtown. While it’s nice to visit (during the day), you’ll miss all the homespun amenities of being an American. You know, the little things like clean drinking water. I’m not even kidding about that.

The “Hotel Zone” is a stretch of beach that accommodates touristas, and follows strict guidelines for safety and enjoyment. In other words, it’s what keeps us Americans coming back to Cancun, luxury, and enjoyment at American standards.

If you haven’t booked yet, Travelocity has some good packages, including all inclusive deals here
Check them out. And have a good trip. Cancun rocks!

near the shore because downtown is FULL of people trying to sell u stuff and bad people

certain hotels have very fancy clubs in them
so u don’ t have to go far
and ur room is right up stairs

at the shore! The local buses go along the hotels on the shore all day and night every 5 minutes (it costs 6.5 pesos) and they take you to the party area. (You have to wave for the driver) The downtown is not that nice at all.
