Why my package should be open by custom official and need to pay more?
deezeenjane asked:
I claim my package at the post office and the custom open it infront of me and find a digital camera which they put in a value of 10,000 pesos and they charge me for 2,215. They said that my friend who sent it didn’t declare or write in the list the value of the camera so they should put the value there in their own estimation. Aside from the VAT, there is also a 500 pesos CUD, 265 pesos CDS, 250 pesos IPF. What is this all about?. Is it because the holiday season is coming and they have to change the rules in the post office? It’s not really fair. Please, I need to know or should I report it to the media. This happend in the Central Post Office of Davao City.

Nothing was wrong here. You had to pay duty on an item that was not declared. It’s standard procedure.
